Yuichiro Nishizawa: Fir Tree Needle

Fir Tree Needle is a hole through the wall shaped like a fir tree needle. The Japanese-born artist Yuichiro Nishizawa was impressed by the strong alteration between light and dark in Finland. The work is inspired by a sight he had in Paimio, when the sunlight hit pine trees where the bark had fallen off and the trees shone like gold in the sunlight. The artwork is located on the second floor of the house and if you look carefully you will notice there’s golden an black threads crossing the hole. The work is placed in the room so that you can see Turku Castle through the hole.
