Leah Oates is a media artist from New York. Her photographic series Transitory Space is glued on the walls of the Bluebell, where it has been left to naturally bleach by the strong sunlight. She photographed these images during a residency at Titanik Gallery in Turku in the summer of 2006. The places she photographed are not popular places, but often less well off places close to factories and other industry, like the area close to the Life on a Leaf house. Oats feels drawn to these places as she herself grew up in a similar place in USA. She’s trying to capture the energy of these places, that are both ugly and beautiful simultaneously.
